Airbus Faltering; Domestic Civil Aviation Suffers, Amidst Fuel Price Cost Hike

Airbus SE is a European aerospace corporation which is mainly involved in manufacturing of aircrafts.  The Airbus A320 is a portfolio of four different types of aircrafts based on fly-by-wire technology. Portfolio of “Airbus A320” mainly includes this four types of aircrafts; A318, A319neo, A320neo & A321neo.

Around 70% of total aircrafts flying in India is produced by Airbus. “A320neo” is the type of aircraft used majorly by Indigo, GoAir, Vistara & Air India. But since 2-3 years this aircrafts are showing major breakdown. Although Airbus’s job is to manufacture planes, it does not manufacture engines for the same. The engine used in A320neo is manufactured by “Pratt & Whitney”, an American engine maker.

The main culprit for the breakdown of “A320neo” is this engine called “PW1100G”.Since induction of these engines in 2016; Indigo Airlines have faced grounding of aircrafts many a times. Indigo airlines in response to all this has said that this issues has not hampered its frequency of flights as there are other aircrafts of “A320” variety working perfectly.

It was even seen that Airbus has stopped manufacturing this aircrafts as Pratt & Whitney (P&W) are unable to satisfy the demand. In case of India also majorly Indigo and GoAir has faced sudden grounding of this aircrafts “N” number of times. Indigo is currently having 140 aircrafts of A320 category, out of which 23 are based on “P & W” engine.

In response to this issue Pratt & Whitney have notified that the climatic conditions of India are the major cause for such grounding. Not only these 2 engines have already been supplied to Indigo airlines and currently “P & G” are working so come up with new engines to solve these issues.

On August 19, 2018 also Indigo airline faced the same problem. Even if the airline is not accepting it A320neo was not a profitable deal.s
