#Health – Making the Monthly War Easier Using Menstrual Cups

When cramps, mood swings, the brutal war going on inside you and then seeing the evidence flowing out keeps on bothering you, running to a Pharmacy and spending a fortune on Sanitary Napkins and Tampons should be the last thing you must worry about.

Let’s break down the amount you spend on these menstrual products, to protect your image and your dress:

  1. In India, on an average, a woman menstruates from about 13 to 46 years of age. Basically, 33 years of their entire lifetime(approximately).

  2. On an average, a woman bleeds 5 days per month.

  3. Hence, a woman is on her menstruation for about 60 days in a year.

  4. Now, to avoid leaking and to protect yourself from TSS(Toxic Shock Syndrome), it’s advisable to change your Tampon/Sanitary pad utmost every 6 hours, i.e., about 4 tampons/pads per day.

4 x 5=20 tampons/pads per cycle,

20 x 60=1200 tampons/pads per year !

  1. Although tampons are not easily available at pharmacy here in India, you can still find some online. Here’s one I found that comes in a pack of 10 costing Rs.130 per pack.

Amount spent is about (1200/10)x130=Rs.15,600 per year.

  1. If you’re a sanitary napkin user, considering that you use decent brand & type, a pack of 6 can be bought at around Rs.40 per pack. Amount spent is about (1200/6)x40=Rs.8000 per year.

Shocking! Isn’t it? No matter who’s financing for it, you still have to pay in thousands for something you can’t control.

To save our pocket and to make our periods a bit easier, Menstrual Cups came to the rescue.Introduced in 1937 and re-introduced in 2005, these medical grade silicon cups are heroes of the 21st century.Cost of one Menstural Cup: Rs.2000(approx) and it can be used and re-used for at least 5 years if maintained properly. Your savings: About Rs.76,000(Menstural Cup v/s Tampon) & Rs.38,000(Menstural Cup v/s Sanitary Pads)

Besides value for money, these cups has been proven to be healthy, both for you & for the environment. Plus, a non-messy period is something we all crave for! Using these for the first time might be difficult for a woman but all we need is practice and to get to know our body better.
